I am new to writing and would therefore class myself as a ‘developing writer.’ It has come to me as a surprise (and a joy), but I now write poetry.

For me writing poetry is a form of self-expression. It allows me to say the things I want to say, in the way that I want to say them. It enables me to be heard even if no one is listening.

I love the brevity of poetry and the challenge of it. My style is still developing so it is difficult to classify however a Professor of Creative Writing recently said to me; “I think it is a sign of a great poet to be able to use so few words to evoke emotion in a reader.”  (Was she talking about me)?!

I have begun to send my work out into the world and have experienced some success which was unexpected and thrilling.

I want to learn and grow as a writer, which is why I requested to join the Bridgnorth Writers Group. I feel extremely lucky to have been given a space to sit amongst such experienced and talented writers.
